Materials for Floor and Wall Tiles Ideas | Bathroom Remodeling
When you are thinking about the design of your bathroom tiles you want something that is attractive but also something that is safe to walk on and will be water resistant. There are a number of different materials that can be used for bathroom tiles and these include rubber flooring, vinyl floors, and ceramic tiles.
These materials all meet the three requirements mentioned above and are readily available to purchase. Some ceramic tiles are available in a terracotta or natural stone finish and if this is something you choose you should make sure that you get the non-slip version.
The most important aspect of choosing a bathroom tile is that it will be suitable for this particular room of the house. Each type of tile has its own advantages and disadvantages and these are discussed in more detail in the following list.
Laminate & Vinyl Tiles
One of the biggest advantages of laminate tiles are that they are relatively inexpensive but still look great. They come in a variety of different textures and patterns so you can find just what you are looking for.
Ceramic Tiles
Ceramic tiles are the most popular choice for many bathrooms. Look for tiles that have been fired at a high temperature as these will be less porous. Light colored ceramic tiles look great when they are paired with a darker colored grout.
Stone Tiles
Stone tiles are more expensive initially but they are low maintenance and will last for many years before they need to be replaced. The main disadvantage of stone tiles is that they can be cold when you step on them with bare feet and so you may want to consider using a bath mat in the room.
Linoleum Tiles
These tiles are very similar to vinyl and laminate tiles but they are a lot easier to clean. They are also made from renewable materials which make them very good for the environment.
Mosaic Tiles
These tiles are very small and can be arranged in a number of ways to create a pattern. They can be quite expensive as you will need a lot of tiles but one way around this is to just use the mosaic on a small section of the floor.
Concrete Tiles
These tiles are very durable and come in a range of different textures. They also come in a number of different sizes so that you can find the right fit for your room. Concrete tiles are a great choice for a wet room.
Hardwood Floor
Hardwood can look very effective in a bathroom but you need to make sure that you choose wood that is resistant to moisture. Hardwood is very easy to clean and can also be refinished if you decide you want a change at a later date.
If you decide to add a rug to your bathroom floor then you will need to make sure you choose a non-slip design. If the rug that you choose is not non-slip then you may be able to add some rubber backing to the rug to prevent it from slipping on the floor.
You should also be aware that rugs can attract a lot of dust and other allergens so if you have someone in the house that suffers from allergies, the rug will have to be cleaned on a regular basis.
Whether you are choosing tiles for a brand new bathroom or you are remodeling your old one, getting involved in the design process can be very useful. After all, it is you that will be using the bathroom on a daily basis so it needs to be something that you are happy with.
